Internship Opportunity – Sales & Events

The Madison Event Center is seeking a college student looking for an exciting internship opportunity to gain experience in event planning and sales at our leading banquet facility. Intern will work directly with our full-time staff to help plan events and assist with our sales efforts. Internship will begin on December 1st 2016 and end on March 31st 2017.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with event planning and entering customer data
  • Assist with special projects
  • Process customer payments
  • Manage schedules of sales consultants
  • Assist with company bi-weekly, semi-annual and annual events
  • Assist with customer and vendor drop offs
  • Greet customers and vendors entering facility and direct to correct destination
  • Answer telephones, screen and direct calls, schedule appointments
  • Provide support to Front of House staff, including working alongside our banquet staff at events
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support

Requirements

  • College student at an accredited university with major, minor, or focus in Hospitality, Event Planning, Marketing or a related field
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency with MicroSoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Outlook and PowerPoint is beneficial
  • Ability to work 20 – 25 hours per week

Banquet Server

Performs various banquet and event functions including but not limited to greeter, server, bartender, passing hors d’ oeuvres or drinks, reception busser, buffet runner, dishwasher and table set-up to ensure that we exceed the expectations of our clients and their guests.

  • Set up, tear down, and clean banquet areas for events.
  • Work as a team member to ensure a successful banquet event following guidelines and all other details of our policies and procedures regarding the service of food and beverage.
  • Report to work on time and in full uniform.
  • Scheduling flexibility including ability to work weekends and holidays based upon business needs.
  • Willing to work until the job is complete and do task outside of original job description.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment.
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, push or pull up to 150 lbs on a pushcart. Must handle heat from cooking appliances, glassware and washing machines. Ability to talk, hear, and communicate effectively with guests. Ability to stand for duration of shift, walk frequently, bend and/or reach with or without assistance.

Bartender

Performs responsible, legal alcohol service, including checking identification, correct orders per guest requests, notify a supervisor/manager regarding cutting off service of alcohol, etc. – Must be Serv-Safe certified.

  • Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment.
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
  • The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, push or pull up to 150 lbs on a pushcart. Must handle heat from cooking appliances, glassware and washing machines. Ability to talk, hear, and communicate effectively with guests. Ability to stand for duration of shift, walk frequently, bend and/or reach with or without assistance.

Dishwasher

Each dishwasher’s primary objective is to provide a clean and safe kitchen area for our staff. Wash and clean tableware, pots, pans and cooking equipment. Keep the dishroom and equipment clean and organized.

  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • Report to work on time.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Managers.
  • Be able to work is a fast paced kitchen environment.
  • Be able to work in a hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods of time.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
